October’s BLOOD MOON

“Together, we will walk hand in hand into the night knowing that we hold the light so bright within us that nothing can hold us back from our blessings.”—Shanti

In October, the moon is said to be the hunter’s or blood moon because that is when people have been “fattening up” for the winter months. The blood color is actually because of the lunar eclipse which occurs when the sun’s light is blocked from reflecting off the moon, giving us the striking red color that has been known for hundreds of years as the blood moon.

Even though the blood moon symbolize endings and beginnings, it is an overall positive time. A time of having received blessings and now basking in the glow of all that we have accomplished so far this year as we prepare for the turning into the dark - a natural cycle of life around our seasonal circle.

Ways to Connect With the Blood Moon

  • Let it go

Chanting can be an amazing way to transmute and release. And the glory of chanting is that you immediately replace what you are letting go with something positive, so it is a complete practice unto itself. For the days of this month, set an intention to release whatever is coming up for you to release. Then chant Om 108 times focusing on letting those things go. You will feel lighter.

  • New Beginnings

Light 3 white candles (if you have red, use that in a triangle - two red and one white).

As you light them, intend that you are opening up a doorway; that in the process of lighting these candles you are creating a space to create that will be received directly by the Creator. Then write your prayer on a piece of paper, fold it and place it in the center of this triangle. Take a quartz crystal or your finger and trace the triangle every day to reactivate the grid. Place your hand over the paper with your prayer every day and infuse it with pure light. Then with your hand over your heart, say thank you, it is done.

  • Protection

As we step out into the night, we ask for protection to weather the transitions and the trials of the dark night. Close your eyes and visualize a tree, the trunk is the very center of your body and the roots sinking deep into the ground. Feel the branches extend above your head. Know that you are connected and supported deep into the earth and that your branches are always connected into the heavens and that no matter what, this tree will not be moved. You will be flexible in the wind while being rooted and unable to destroy. Call on this energy daily for protection.
